CAMPAIGN FOR RESPONSIBLE RODENTICIDE USE and BASIS
"WILDLIFE AWARE" COURSE AND ACCREDITATION
When: 21st March 2012
Where: Lenham
Cost: £175 + VAT

One-Day Course for Pest Control Technicians

CRRU and BASIS have established a new training course, and associated accreditation scheme, for professional pest control technicians, and other competent users of rodenticides, under the title "Wildlife Aware".

The course and accreditation is aimed at those who offer a service of rodent pest management to farming enterprises and other businesses in rural areas. Those who attend the course will have already attended training courses in rodent pest management so that they are competent in the use of anticoagulant rodenticides. "Wildlife Aware" accreditation is offered to all those who attend the "Wildlife Aware" course and pass the examination. This accreditation is intended to indicate to customers for rodent pest control services that those who hold the accreditation will work to the highest standards in order to achieve effective pest control with minimum adverse effects on wildlife and the wider environment.

Five modules will be presented during the one-day "Wildlife Aware" courses:
1. Why Control Rodents.
2. Rodent Species - identification and behaviour.
3. Effective control rodents on farms and farmland.
4. Environmental Impacts of Rodenticides.
5. The Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use

CRRU is offering this course to those who wish to become "Wildlife Aware" Accredited Technicians. The cost is £175 and this includes catering, course materials, license to use the "Wildlife Aware" logo, the BASIS examination fee and the first year of "Wildlife Aware" accreditation.

£20 MILLION FOR FARMING, FORESTRY and HORTICULTURAL BUSINESSES
A new £20 million fund to help farming, forestry and horticultural businesses to become more efficient at using resources has been launched. The scheme aims to help businesses to become more competitive and more profitable, whilst reducing the impact of farming on the environment.
Farmers, foresters, woodland owners, agricultural contractors and horticulturalists can apply for grants of up to £25,000 to invest in green projects, new machinery and improvements to animal health and welfare so their businesses can grow in an environmentally friendly way.
The Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme will fund projects that:

  • save energy and reduce carbon emissions;
  • reduce dependence on artificial fertilizers through better use of manures;
  • improve soil quality;
  • improve animal health and welfare;
  • save and recycle water; and
  • promote woodland management by processing timber more efficiently.
